A Harmony of the New Testament Period

This harmony of the New Testament is an ongoing project. If you are a serious student of the New Testament and you have some good ideas, let me know. The point is to put some background to the New Testament writings. While the principles in it are ageless, they are best understood as they relate to the history of the time in which they were written. Most people do not know much about the economic and political turmoil of the first century A.D., a turmoil that prompted some of the important sayings and actions of Jesus and his Apostles.

Included is a somewhat conventional presentation of the four Gospels, where verses are side by side because of a similarity of subject matter. That similarity does not guarantee the material belongs side by side chronologically.

Following the four gospels is a layout of the Acts of the Apostles. The idea behind that page is to provide a reference for reading the rest of the New Testament. Many people do not realize that the writings, Romans through Jude, as found in a popular Bible, are not in the order in which they were written. Reading them in that order helps us to understand them.

The best way to read them is in relation to the events recorded in Acts. In addition to putting the Books of the New Testament in the order in which they were written, the chart on page eight can be used to read Luke's History until arriving at the approximate time and place in which a letter was written to some church. Turning to that letter at that point brings more insight than is acquired when the letter is read without consulting Luke's record of the occasion, and other pertinent historical facts placed on the chart.

The best thing about an Internet based harmony like this is the time saved by having information immediately available. One is only a click away from reading a New Testament passage(s). The way these charts are set up, verses can be investigated using the translation of choice, or even by reference to the original Greek language.
